History
The 2023/24 season was a remarkable Leeds United campaign: after relegation from the Premier League in 2022/23, Daniel Farke rebuilt the side and took Leeds to third place in the Championship with 90 points. They reached the play-off final at Wembley, but lost 1–0 to Southampton and therefore remained in the Championship.
The 2023/24 season

Farke was an excellent appointment for the rebuilding job. He had already won two Championship titles with Norwich City, and Leeds specifically wanted his experience of getting clubs promoted.
The promotion race
Leeds were involved in an extraordinary three-way promotion battle with Leicester City and Ipswich Town.
Going into the final stages, Leeds still had a chance of automatic promotion, but a poor finish to the regular season cost them.

The 90 points is remarkable. Leeds became the first team since Sunderland in 1998 to reach 90 points in the second tier and still fail to gain automatic promotion.
Play-offs
Leeds drew 0–0 at Norwich in the first leg of the semi-final.
Then came one of the best performances of the season.

Wembley heartbreak
The final against Southampton on 26 May 2024 was a completely different story.
Leeds 0–1 Southampton
Adam Armstrong scored in the 24th minute, and despite Leeds having more possession and creating late pressure, Southampton held on.
Key Players
Crysencio Summerville
The star of the season.
Summerville became one of the Championship's most dangerous attacking players and finished with:
21 goals + 10 assists in all competitions.
He was voted Players' Player of the Season by his teammates and was also named Championship Player of the Season.
His acceleration, dribbling and ability to beat defenders made him the player most capable of changing a match.
He was particularly outstanding during the autumn and spring runs of form.
Georginio Rutter
Rutter developed enormously during this season.
He finished with:
8 goals + 16 assists
and became the team's principal creative forward.
His ability to carry the ball, create chances and link midfield with attack was crucial to Farke's system.
The partnership between Rutter and Summerville was one of the defining features of the season.
Ethan Ampadu
One of the most important players of the entire campaign.
Ampadu was almost ever-present, making 46 Championship appearances and 54 in all competitions.
He could play both midfield and defence and became a leader in the side.
Leeds subsequently named him their 2023/24 Player of the Year.
Archie Gray
Perhaps the most exciting breakthrough player.
Gray was only 17 when the season began but became a regular member of Farke's side.
He could operate in midfield or at right-back and showed extraordinary maturity.
His performance against Chelsea in the FA Cup was particularly impressive, with Leeds' own retrospective highlighting his Man of the Match display at Stamford Bridge.
Joël Piroe
A major summer signing from Swansea.
He scored 14 goals in all competitions, including the important second goal against Norwich in the play-off semi-final second leg.
Piroe was particularly dangerous around the penalty area.
Joe Rodon
The Tottenham loanee became one of the most important defensive players.
He formed an excellent partnership with the other major defensive signing, Ampadu, and made 43 Championship appearances.
His performances were good enough for Leeds to make his signing permanent after the season.
Glen Kamara
The Finnish midfielder provided experience and defensive balance.
He became an important part of the midfield during the promotion push and was particularly impressive in the huge victory over Leicester at Elland Road.
Junior Firpo
Firpo had perhaps his most productive Leeds season.
He became increasingly important as an attacking left-back and contributed eight assists across the campaign according to the season statistics.
Wilfried Gnonto
The young Italian remained an important attacking option.
He finished with nine goals in all competitions and was involved in some of the season's biggest moments, including the assist for Piroe's goal against Norwich in the play-off semi-final.
