History
2020 was an important transition year for the German national team under Joachim Löw, although the major tournament associated with the season was actually UEFA Euro 2020, played in 2021 after its postponement because of COVID-19.
Germany finished second in their 2020–21 UEFA Nations League group, behind Spain. They recorded two wins, three draws and one defeat, but the campaign ended with a heavy 6–0 defeat to Spain in Seville on 17 November 2020.
The 2020 calendar year therefore formed the build-up to Löw's final tournament as Germany manager. The DFB subsequently confirmed that he would leave after Euro 2020.
