History
2020 was an important transition year for Germany. Joachim Löw was still manager, Manuel Neuer remained captain, and the side was trying to rebuild after the disastrous 2018 World Cup. The delayed Euro 2020 would ultimately be played in 2021 because of COVID-19, so Germany's actual competitive football in 2020 centred on the UEFA Nations League.

The campaign started reasonably well but Germany repeatedly struggled to close games out. The most damaging moment came on 17 November 2020, when Spain demolished Germany 6–0 in Seville. Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick, while Germany produced an unusually poor performance. It was Germany's heaviest competitive defeat and became a major low point of the Löw era.
Interestingly, Manuel Neuer broke the German goalkeeper appearance record during that match, but the milestone was overshadowed by the result.

Manuel Neuer — goalkeeper & captain
Still the undisputed No.1 and one of the world's elite goalkeepers. He provided leadership during a period of considerable instability.
Toni Kroos — central midfielder
The Real Madrid star remained Germany's principal controller and passer. He was captain in several of the 2020 matches.
Joshua Kimmich — midfielder/right-back
Already becoming one of Germany's most important players. His versatility, energy and pressing made him central to Löw's developing side.
Leon Goretzka — midfielder
A powerful box-to-box presence and increasingly important alongside Kimmich and Kroos.
Timo Werner — striker
Probably Germany's most productive attacking player in 2020. He scored against Spain in September and twice against Ukraine in November.
Serge Gnabry — forward
A key attacking threat following his outstanding development at Bayern Munich.
Leroy Sané — winger
Returned from his long-term knee injury and provided Germany with pace and direct attacking ability.
Antonio Rüdiger — defender
One of the regular defensive leaders and, particularly in the latter part of the year, an important physical presence at the back.
Matthias Ginter — defender
A highly trusted Löw player who featured regularly in the back three/four.
Kai Havertz — attacking midfielder/forward
One of the generation's biggest young talents. He had just moved from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea in 2020.
Why 2020 matters historically
The year effectively marked the end of Löw's rebuilding experiment. Germany had failed to reproduce the dominance of the 2010–2014 generation, and the 6–0 defeat to Spain exposed the team's structural problems.
Löw nevertheless remained in charge for Euro 2020, where he brought Mats Hummels and Thomas Müller back into the squad after previously excluding them during the rebuild. UEFA specifically identified Müller as a key player for the tournament.
In short: Germany's 2020 team was a fascinating mixture of the old guard (Neuer, Kroos, Müller/Hummels returning) and the new generation (Kimmich, Goretzka, Gnabry, Sané, Werner, Havertz). It was a transitional side that had enormous talent but had not yet found the tactical and defensive stability needed to challenge Europe's best.

You have 7 days from delivery to request a return. The shirt must come back unworn and in the same condition it was sent, with all tags intact. Return postage is paid by the buyer.
