History
Borussia Dortmund 2014/15
The 2014/15 season was a dramatic one for Borussia Dortmund and the final season of Jürgen Klopp's seven-year spell as manager.
Bundesliga: 7th place
DFB-Pokal: Runners-up — Dortmund lost 3–1 to Wolfsburg in the final.
Champions League: Round of 16 — eliminated by Juventus, 5–1 on aggregate.
DFL-Supercup: Winners, beating Bayern Munich 2–0 in Dortmund. Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang scored.
Dortmund's league campaign was extremely poor early on, with the club sitting near the relegation places during the winter. A strong second half saw them recover to 7th and qualify for Europe.
Klopp announced in April 2015 that he would leave at the end of the season, bringing an emotional end to his highly successful Dortmund era.
Key players
Marco Reus – The club's major attacking star and one of the most important players of the Klopp era. His pace, dribbling and finishing made him Dortmund's principal creative threat.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Increasingly important as a goalscorer and attacking outlet. He scored the second goal in the 2–0 Supercup victory over Bayern.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan – An influential attacking midfielder who scored Dortmund's opener in the Supercup against Bayern.
Mats Hummels – Defensive leader and captain, central to Dortmund's defence.
Roman Weidenfeller – Long-serving goalkeeper and an important figure throughout the Klopp era.
Ilkay Gündogan – Key central midfielder, although injuries continued to affect his availability.
Shinji Kagawa – Returned to Dortmund from Manchester United in summer 2014 and became an important attacking midfielder again.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos – Important centre-back who provided physicality and defensive consistency.
Lukasz Piszczek – Established right-back and another veteran of Dortmund's successful Klopp teams.
