History
2010 was a difficult year for the French national team. Raymond Domenech remained head coach as France entered the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, having qualified in controversial circumstances after Thierry Henry's handball in the play-off against Ireland.
France were drawn in Group A with Uruguay, Mexico and South Africa. They drew 0–0 with Uruguay, lost 2–0 to Mexico and then lost 2–1 to South Africa, finishing bottom of the group and being eliminated at the group stage.
The tournament was also marked by serious internal disputes within the squad, including the expulsion of Nicolas Anelka and a players' training boycott. After the World Cup, Domenech was replaced by Laurent Blanc.
