History
2020/21 belongs to a particularly successful Ajax season. Erik ten Hag's team won both the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup, while reaching the quarter-finals of the Europa League after dropping out of the Champions League.

Ajax were outstanding domestically, finishing the 34-game Eredivisie season with 28 wins, 4 draws and only 2 defeats, scoring 102 goals and conceding just 23. They finished on 88 points.
They also won the KNVB Cup, beating Vitesse 2–1 in the final. It was Ajax's 20th Dutch Cup.
Europe
Ajax began in the Champions League but were drawn in a difficult group with Liverpool, Atalanta and Midtjylland. They finished third and transferred into the Europa League.
Their Europa League run continued through the knockout rounds before ending against Roma in the quarter-finals.
Key Players
Dušan Tadić
The captain and arguably the defining player of the team.
Tadić scored 22 goals in all competitions, including 14 in the Eredivisie. He also remained the team's principal creative player and penalty taker.
He was the leader of this Ajax side and wore the No. 10 shirt.
Davy Klaassen
A particularly important returnee.
Klaassen came back to Ajax from Werder Bremen in 2020 and immediately became one of the team's most important midfielders.
He scored 16 goals in all competitions, including 12 in the Eredivisie.
Sébastien Haller
Ajax signed Haller from West Ham in January 2021.
He made an enormous impact, scoring 13 goals in only half a season.
Interestingly, his Europa League campaign was affected by Ajax accidentally leaving him off their UEFA registration list.
Antony
One of the exciting young attacking stars.
Antony scored 10 goals in all competitions, including nine in the Eredivisie. His dribbling, acceleration and one-on-one ability made him one of the most exciting players in the squad.
Ryan Gravenberch
This was the season in which Gravenberch really established himself.
Still only 18 for much of the campaign, he became a regular in midfield and was one of the outstanding young talents in Dutch football.
He made 47 appearances in all competitions.
Lisandro Martínez
A hugely important defender.
Martínez was particularly valuable because of his ability to play out from the back and his aggressive defensive style.
He started all six of Ajax's Europa League matches.
Daley Blind
The experienced defensive leader.
Blind could operate as centre-back, left-back or defensive midfielder and remained central to Ten Hag's possession-based system.
Edson Álvarez
The physical presence in midfield.
Álvarez provided defensive balance and allowed players such as Klaassen and Gravenberch greater freedom.
Nicolás Tagliafico
The experienced left-back was still an important member of the squad, making 40 appearances during the season.
Jurriën Timber
One of the major young defensive breakthroughs.
Timber began establishing himself in the first team during this season and would become an important part of Ajax's subsequent teams.
