History
The 2018/19 season was another trophy-filled year for FC Bayern München, although it was a much tighter Bundesliga campaign than some of their previous title wins.
Bayern were managed by Niko Kovač, who had arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt after leading them to the 2018 DFB-Pokal. Bayern eventually won both major domestic trophies, completing a domestic double.
Bundesliga
Bayern won the Bundesliga for the seventh consecutive season, finishing 1st with 78 points.
The title race was unusually close. Borussia Dortmund pushed Bayern throughout the season, but Bayern pulled away late in the campaign. The decisive moment came on the final day when Bayern demolished Eintracht Frankfurt 5–1 at the Allianz Arena, securing the championship.
DFB-Pokal
Bayern also won the DFB-Pokal, beating RB Leipzig 3–0 in the final.
Lewandowski scored twice, with Kingsley Coman scoring the other goal. It gave Kovač a domestic double in his first season as Bayern manager.
Key players
Robert Lewandowski
The central attacking figure and Bundesliga top scorer with 22 league goals. He was arguably Bayern's most important player throughout the season.
Thomas Müller
A key attacking and creative player and one of the senior figures in the squad.
Arjen Robben
His final season at Bayern. Injuries restricted him significantly, but his importance to the club's golden era was enormous.
Franck Ribéry
Like Robben, 2018/19 was his final Bayern season. He remained an influential attacking player despite his age.
Joshua Kimmich
Already becoming one of Bayern's most important players. He played primarily at right-back during this period and was extremely important going forward.
James Rodríguez
The Colombian playmaker was still at Bayern on loan from Real Madrid. His technical quality made him an important option in midfield and attack.
David Alaba
A crucial member of the defence and increasingly one of Bayern's senior players.
Mats Hummels
Experienced centre-back who played a significant role during the season.
Manuel Neuer
Captain and first-choice goalkeeper, although his season was interrupted by injury.
