History
The 2015/16 season was Manuel Pellegrini's final season at Manchester City, and although City finished only fourth in the Premier League, it was a significant campaign because they reached the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in the club's history and won the League Cup.
Key Players
Sergio Agüero — the superstar
Agüero was City's outstanding player and top scorer.
He scored:

He also produced one of the great individual Premier League performances of the season, scoring five goals against Newcastle United. He was still City's undisputed attacking focal point.
Kevin De Bruyne
This was De Bruyne's first season at City after his £54.5m move from Wolfsburg. He immediately became one of the team's most important attacking players. He also scored the dramatic 91st-minute winner against Sevilla in the Champions League group stage.
His first season was a major indication of what was to come under Pep Guardiola.
Yaya Touré
Still an enormous presence in midfield. Touré scored 8 goals in all competitions, including six in the Premier League, and was one of City's most influential midfielders. This was, however, the beginning of the transition away from the great City side of the early 2010s.
Fernandinho
One of the most important under-the-radar players of the season. He made 33 Premier League appearances, starting 31, and was crucial both defensively and in City's possession game. His versatility became particularly important when City suffered injuries in defence.
David Silva
This was his sixth season at Manchester City, and although his raw goal numbers were modest, he remained one of City's most important creative players. He made 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring 4 goals and providing 12 assists. In the Premier League specifically, he played 24 matches, scoring twice and registering 11 assists. The relatively low appearance total was partly due to injury, but when fit, Silva remained the team's creative conductor— operating between midfield and attack and linking players such as Agüero, De Bruyne and Sterling.
Joe Hart
First-choice goalkeeper and a major figure in the Champions League run. Hart made 35 Premier League appearances and was particularly important in the Champions League, including saving a penalty against Borussia Mönchengladbach during the group stage.
Raheem Sterling
Another major summer signing. Sterling arrived from Liverpool and gave City pace and direct running from wide positions. He finished with 11 goals in all competitions, including three in the Champions League.
Kelechi Iheanacho
One of the season's most exciting discoveries. The young Nigerian striker broke into the first team and scored 14 goals in all competitions during his breakthrough campaign.
Nicolás Otamendi
Signed from Valencia in the summer, Otamendi became an important part of City's defence. He made 30 Premier League appearances and 42 in all competitions, partnering with Vincent Kompany when the Belgian was available.
