History
Barcelona’s 2016/17 season under Luis Enrique produced two trophies and several unforgettable moments. The team finished second in La Liga and won the Copa del Rey, beating Alavés 3–1 in the final. The campaign is particularly remembered for Barcelona’s extraordinary 6–1 Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain, overturning a four-goal first-leg deficit to progress 6–5 on aggregate. Barcelona’s European run ended in the quarter-finals against Juventus.
Key Players
Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar formed Barcelona’s celebrated attacking trio. Messi scored 54 goals in all competitions, while Neymar played a starring role in the comeback against Paris Saint-Germain. Andrés Iniesta provided midfield creativity and leadership, supported by Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitić. Gerard Piqué, Jordi Alba and goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen were also important members of the squad.
The Shirt
Barcelona’s 2016/17 home shirt was manufactured by Nike and returned to traditional Blaugrana vertical stripes in brighter, more saturated shades of blue and red. The design was inspired by the kit worn during the club’s successful 1991/92 European campaign, marking the 25th anniversary of Barcelona’s first European Cup triumph.
The shirt features a subtle tonal stripe pattern, a gold Nike Swoosh and the Barcelona crest. Qatar Airways appeared as the main shirt sponsor after the season began, while Beko branding featured on the sleeve and UNICEF branding remained on the lower back. Nike’s performance-focused construction gave the shirt a contemporary look while retaining Barcelona’s classic identity.
Associated with the final season of the famous Messi–Suárez–Neymar attacking trio, this shirt recalls a campaign full of goals, domestic silverware and one of the Champions League’s most remarkable comebacks.
