History

The 2010 season saw Argentina arrive at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa with enormous expectations. Managed by legendary former player Diego Maradona, the national team featured a talented generation led by Lionel Messi, who was emerging as one of the world's greatest footballers.

Argentina qualified for the tournament after a difficult qualifying campaign, but their attacking talent made them one of the most anticipated teams at the first World Cup held on African soil.

FIFA World Cup

Argentina won all three of their group matches, defeating Nigeria 1–0, South Korea 4–1 and Greece 2–0 to progress comfortably to the knockout stages.

In the round of 16, Argentina defeated Mexico 3–1, with Carlos Tévez scoring twice and Gonzalo Higuaín adding another goal. Their campaign ended in the quarter-finals, however, as Germany produced a commanding 4–0 victory. The result was a disappointing conclusion for Maradona's side despite their attacking promise.

Key players

Lionel Messi

Argentina's central creative force and the team's number 10. Although he did not score at the tournament, Messi was heavily involved in Argentina's attacking play and created numerous opportunities.

Gonzalo Higuaín

The Real Madrid striker was Argentina's leading scorer at the World Cup, finishing with four goals, including a hat-trick against South Korea.

Carlos Tévez

A powerful and energetic forward who scored twice against Mexico in the round of 16. His determination and attacking intensity made him a major figure in Argentina's campaign.

Ángel Di María

The talented winger provided pace, movement and creativity from wide positions, helping Argentina stretch opposition defences.

Javier Mascherano

The captain and defensive midfielder was responsible for protecting the defence and providing leadership in the centre of the pitch.

Sergio Agüero

One of Argentina's exciting young attacking options, Agüero offered pace and movement and was part of a forward line packed with international talent.

Diego Maradona

The iconic former Argentina captain managed the national team during the tournament. His presence brought enormous attention to the campaign, although the heavy quarter-final defeat ended his spell as head coach.

The Shirt

The Argentina 2010 home shirt was manufactured by Adidas for the World Cup in South Africa. It features the country's traditional sky-blue and white vertical stripes, representing the colours that have defined the national team's identity for generations.

The design combines broad sky-blue stripes with white panels, finished with dark detailing around the collar and sleeve edges. The Adidas performance styling gives the shirt a distinctive look associated with Argentina's international football shirts of the late 2000s and early 2010s.

Worn during the era of Lionel Messi's emergence as Argentina's leading star, the shirt is associated with Diego Maradona's memorable return to the World Cup as a coach. Although Argentina did not reach the semi-finals, the team featured several legendary players and remains an important part of the country's modern football history.

For collectors, this shirt represents a distinctive World Cup era, combining Argentina's timeless stripes with a squad featuring Messi, Higuaín, Tévez and Di María.

How we verify authenticity

Every shirt is inspected by hand before it is listed. We check construction, neck and wash labels, stitching, sponsor and badge application, and the manufacturer product code against period-correct examples. Only shirts that pass are photographed, graded and added to the Vault. If a shirt is not an authentic original, we do not sell it.

Condition and sizing

These shirts are vintage, aged and normally used, so they will almost always show some degree of wear. Each listing carries a condition grade out of ten and any notable fault is called out in the description. Sizing on older shirts differs from modern sizing — always go by the pit-to-pit and length measurements listed, not the size on the label.

Why this shirt costs what it costs

Original, not a reproduction

A reproduction and an original can look identical in a listing photo. Drag the slider to see the difference, and what we checked on this exact shirt before it was listed.

  1. Embroidered crest with real stitch texture, never a flat print
  2. Period-correct fabric weave, weight and cut for the season
  3. Woven sponsor lettering applied the way that era did it
  4. Original neck and wash labels, matched to the year
  5. Manufacturer product code checked against the genuine one

Before you buy

Will it fit me?

Go by the flat measurements in the description, not the size on the label. Sizing on older shirts is nothing like modern sizing. Lay a shirt you already own flat, measure pit to pit and length, and compare. Not sure? Send us the listing and we will tell you honestly.

What condition is it in?

This shirt is vintage, aged and normally used, so it will show some degree of wear. The condition grade out of ten and any notable fault are stated in the description above. Nothing is hidden in the photographs.

What makes it an original?

Every shirt is an authentic original from its season, found and checked by hand before it is listed. Stock is limited and often a single piece, so when one sells it is usually gone for good.

How do I know it is authentic?

Every shirt is inspected by hand before listing: construction, neck and wash labels, stitching, sponsor and badge application, and the manufacturer product code, all against period-correct examples. If a shirt is not an authentic original, we do not sell it.

When will it arrive?

Orders are dispatched within 2 working days from Spain, fully tracked and insured at our expense. EU standard tracked is €15.99 up to 2 kg with estimated delivery in 3–5 days. Australia, Japan and Singapore are €19.95 for one shirt, €24.95 for two and €29.95 for three or four, with estimated delivery in 6–8 working days.

What if it is not right?

You have 7 days from delivery to request a return. Send it back unworn and in the same condition, with tags intact, and we refund the full purchase price. We do not accept refunds or exchanges for change of mind or incorrect sizing, so please review your purchase carefully before ordering. If it arrives damaged or not as described, we cover the return postage too.

Every shirt in the Matchday Vault is an authentic original — sourced, inspected and graded by hand, and photographed in detail before it is listed. No replicas. No modern reproductions. Ever.
