History
The 2018/19 season was a challenging period for Real Madrid following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and the end of their run of three consecutive Champions League titles. The club finished third in La Liga and reached the Champions League round of 16, where they were eliminated by Ajax. Despite the domestic and European disappointments, Madrid won the FIFA Club World Cup in December 2018, securing another international title and continuing their remarkable history of success.
Key players
The squad featured established stars including Sergio Ramos, Luka Modrić, Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Marcelo. Young Brazilian forward Vinícius Júnior also began to make a significant impact during the campaign. Benzema was Real Madrid's leading scorer across the season, while Modrić continued to provide creativity and control in midfield.
The Shirt
This striking Adidas third shirt from the 2018/19 season stands out with its bright coral-red colour, subtle all-over graphic pattern, dark-red V-neck and white Adidas branding. The monochrome Real Madrid crest and Fly Emirates sponsor complete the distinctive design.
The shirt was created in collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, reflecting Adidas and Real Madrid's support for reducing plastic waste in the marine environment. The shirt was made using recycled plastic waste collected from coastal areas and beaches as part of the Parley initiative.
The 2017 World Champions Patch Connection: Real won the 2017 FIFA Club World Club Final against Grêmio (16 December 2017 in Abu Dhabi, won 1–0 via a Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick).
Winning that match against Grêmio earned Real Madrid the 2017 FIFA World Champions Badge. They wore this gold patch across their shirts throughout the entire 2018 calendar year—which is why this Gold patch was available as a retail add on for the 2018/19 for all kits including the third kit.
