History
The 2022 season was a memorable year for the France national team, who entered the FIFA World Cup in Qatar as defending champions after their triumph in Russia in 2018. Managed by Didier Deschamps, Les Bleus arrived with a talented squad hoping to become the first nation since Brazil in 1962 to win consecutive men's World Cup titles.
FIFA World Cup
France progressed through the group stage with victories over Australia and Denmark, despite losing their final group match against Tunisia. They then defeated Poland 3–1 in the round of 16, before overcoming England 2–1 in a dramatic quarter-final.
In the semi-final, France beat Morocco 2–0 to reach their second consecutive World Cup final. They faced Argentina in one of the most memorable finals in tournament history. After trailing 2–0, France fought back through two Kylian Mbappé goals, taking the match into extra time. Mbappé completed his hat-trick, but Argentina eventually won 4–2 on penalties after a 3–3 draw.
Although France missed out on the trophy, their run to the final confirmed their place among the world's leading international teams. Mbappé finished the tournament as top scorer with eight goals.
