The 2022/23 season was Nantes' 80th season and their 10th consecutive season in France's top division. Antoine Kombouaré began the campaign as head coach.
It was a fascinating season because Nantes had a very poor Ligue 1 campaign but another excellent Coupe de France run.
Nantes were the defending champions, having beaten Nice 1–0 in the 2022 final.
They reached the 2023 final again, beating Lyon 1–0 in the semi-final, but lost 5–1 to Toulouse in the final at the Stade de France. So they finished runners-up and missed out on retaining the trophy.
Because of their 2022 Coupe de France victory, Nantes returned to European football. They reached the knockout-round play-offs, where they were drawn against Juventus. Nantes earned a memorable 1–1 draw in Turin, but Juventus won the return leg in France 3–0, eliminating Nantes.
The league campaign was much more difficult. Nantes finished 16th. They went through a particularly worrying period between February and May, with a 14-match winless run, leaving them in serious relegation trouble. They eventually survived on the final day.
Ludovic Blas – Midfielder/Forward – The outstanding attacking player of the season. Blas scored 12 goals in all competitions, including 7 in Ligue 1, 3 in Europe and 2 in the Coupe de France.
Mostafa Mohamed – Striker – The Egyptian striker, on loan from Galatasaray, became Nantes' top Ligue 1 scorer with 8 goals and scored 11 in all competitions.
Moses Simon – Winger – The Nigerian international remained one of Nantes' principal attacking threats, contributing 5 Ligue 1 goals and 9 in all competitions.
Alban Lafont – Goalkeeper – A hugely important figure. Lafont started 37 of Nantes' 38 Ligue 1 matches, playing 3,329 minutes.
Andrei Girotto – Defender/Midfielder – One of the team's most consistent players, starting all 36 Ligue 1 matches he played. His versatility was particularly valuable during Nantes' difficult season.
Jean-Charles Castelletto – Centre-back – Another defensive regular, making 32 Ligue 1 appearances and starting 30. He was an important part of the side that eventually secured survival.
Samuel Moutoussamy – Midfielder – Made 35 Ligue 1 appearances, starting 27, and was another of Kombouaré's regular midfielders.
The 2022/23 FC Nantes Home shirt was designed by Macron and officially unveiled on 13 July 2022. It deliberately moved away from the green vertical stripes used on Nantes shirts for the previous three seasons, returning to a much more traditional predominantly yellow design.
The most distinctive feature is the embossed, tone-on-tone floral pattern across the front and back. Macron and Nantes took their inspiration from the Passage Pommeraye, the famous 19th-century covered shopping arcade in the centre of Nantes. The floral details on the arcade's ornate vaulted ceiling were reproduced in the fabric of the shirt. That's why, when you look closely at the shirt, you can see the subtle raised floral design even though from a distance it appears to be a simple yellow shirt.
Nantes specifically highlighted the return to a round collar, with green and white trim around the neck and the same colours on the sleeve cuffs. The club said this was inspired by the design of the 1988/89 Nantes shirt.
Behind the neck are eight green stars, representing Nantes' eight French league championships. The inside of the back neck also carries the club's “On est Nantes” motto.
The shirt was part of Macron and Nantes' sustainability programme. It was made using Eco-Softlock fabric containing 100% recycled polyester, with the club stating that one shirt represented approximately 13 recycled plastic bottles.
Jock tag: The bottom hem features the correct official licensed product eco-fabric hologram patch with clean typography.
Labelling: Unlike Nike or adidas, Macron does not print its product code on the sewn-in care labels; it appears only on the cardboard swing tag attached when the shirt is new. The ID910 on the inside label is a factory batch marker, not a style code.
This is the 2022/23 FC Nantes Home Shirt.

Every shirt is inspected by hand before it is listed. Only shirts that pass are photographed, graded and added to the Vault. If a shirt is not an authentic original, we do not sell it.
These shirts are vintage, aged and normally used, so they will almost always show some degree of wear. Each listing carries a condition grade out of ten and any notable fault is called out in the description. Sizing on older shirts differs from modern sizing — always go by the pit-to-pit and length measurements listed, not the size on the label.
Why this shirt costs what it costs
A reproduction and an original can look identical in a listing photo. Drag the slider to see the difference, and what we checked on this exact shirt before it was listed.
Three steps, every single time. No shortcuts, no exceptions.
Step one
We track down originals across Europe: private collectors, club sales, and the people who were actually there.
Step two
Construction, neck and wash labels, stitching, sponsor application and product code, all checked by hand against period-correct examples.
Step three
Photographed in detail, graded out of ten with full measurements, then shipped worldwide tracked and insured from Spain, with reduced rates on more than one shirt.
Go by the flat measurements in the description, not the size on the label. Sizing on older shirts is nothing like modern sizing. Lay a shirt you already own flat, measure pit to pit and length, and compare. Not sure? Send us the listing and we will tell you honestly.

Every shirt is an authentic original from its season, found and checked by hand before it is listed. Stock is limited and often a single piece, so when one sells it is usually gone for good.
